Fuel Management – More Horsepower

You want more horsepower out of your motorcycle, there are some ways to accomplish this.

Up the CCs

You can increase the size of the engine by boring the engine to increase the engine cubic centimeter/inch displacement. Boring is done by machining the cylinder walls to make the cylinder larger. Over boring will weaken the cylinder wall and cause the engine to fail in time.

The other method is to get a stroker kit and increase the piston stroke to give the cylinder more volume. This requires a new crankshaft, new piston rods that move the crankshaft farther from the axis center of rotation. This method affects the engine's ability to rev correctly.

Both the above methods are time consuming and expensive, especially if you are not an experienced mechanic. You will pay someone else to do the work. Additionally, you won’t look overdressed while riding your motorcycle wearing Men Textile Motorcycle Pants or Men Motorcycle Leather Racing Pants.
Increase Air and Fuel Capacity

To increase the horsepower of your motorcycle, you can increase the amount of air going into the engine.

Supercharger

Taking outside air a supercharger compresses the air and forces it into the engine through the intake valve. This increases the rate of combustion inside the engine at each power stroke.
The supercharger must be attached to a rotating part of the engine either by using a belt or chain. While performing its job, the supercharger uses as little energy as possible.

Turbocharger

A turbocharger is a turbine-driven system that increases the air density and pushes it into the engine. Similar to a supercharger, the turbocharger performs the same task, but there is a difference.
The turbocharger's turbine is powered by the motorcycle's exhaust and is more efficient than superchargers, often lighter, and smaller. As a result, you will experience an increase in the power and speed of your motorcycle. You can increase your drawing power by being seen in the Leather Motorcycle Vests.

What Else Can I Do?

That is a good question, here is what you need to know. There are two ways to go, with fuel-injected machines you use fuel management systems. With carbureted bikes, the carburetor needs to be modified by doing that yourself or by using a carb kit.
To increase horsepower, you have to control the fuel-air ratio, get the ideal mix for max efficiency. The best air-fuel ratio ranges 12.8:1 to 13.5:1 for the best production of power by a motorcycle four-stroke engine. But your best production improves when you are decked out in Textile Men Motorcycle Jackets as well.

Manage the Fuel

Your motorcycle is programmed from the manufacturer to run at the prescribed air-fuel ratio to meet EPA standards. The ECU (Engine Control Unit), a computer that takes information from the different sensors on the bike to determine the air-fuel ratio to inject into the engine. This occurred through all phases of the throttling process.

The motorcycle is programmed to run leaner at low engine speeds such as idling which makes the bike run hotter. Here is one solution, an add-on system that re-tunes the ECU to trigger the desired air-fuel ratio for more desirable horsepower.

The device is attached to the bike and is spliced between the ECU and the injectors or coils. The device intercepts the signal from the ECU, tweaks them and sends the new message to the injectors. Which add-on device you want is based on what you are willing to pay for horsepower tweaking.
Talk about tweaking, you will be a hit while wearing All Season Motorcycle Jackets

Other Methods

You can swap put a bulky muffler for a smaller lighter, less restrictive one which can lighten up your load. You can change out the entire exhaust system from headers to tailpipe but, that will require tweaking to the ECU to prevent a malfunction.

Final Injection

Melvin Schott – The Perfecto Patriarch, Dead At 94

The Man is a Legend - The Jacket is a Legend

If you ride motorcycles, own a Schott Perfecto, this article is for you. Melvin (Mel) Schott, the man responsible for making a leather motorcycle jacket a must-have garment for bikers, passed away August 14, 2019, at 94.

The Beginning

It was Melvin's father, Irving who first started making and selling leather jackets and raincoats lined with fur; it was 1913.

In the 1920s Irving’s jacket was the first jacket to be fitted with a zipper. The hookless fastener was invented by the Talon Company of New Jersey. The first leather motorcycle jacket was designed by Irving in 1928; the jacket was rugged, durable and became an instant success.
Irving sold the jacket through a Harley-Davidson outlet in Long Island, NY for $5.50. Eighty-eight years later the Schott leather motorcycle jacket is virtually unchanged and is still preferred by bikers worldwide.

When you arrive wearing your Men Motorcycle Leather Racing Jacket and matching Men Leather Motorcycle Pants, the world will notice.

Enter Melvin

Melvin made his debut on May 11, 1925, to parents Irving and Rose Schott. As Melvin was growing-up, he learned the trade of making leather motorcycle jackets and even sold them door to door.
In 1943 at age 18 Melvin enlisted in the Marines and headed off to war. Melvin fought in the Pacific against the Japanese on Iwo Jima where he was wounded in February of 1945. Melvin spent over a year in military hospitals recovering from his wounds for which he received a Purple Heart.
Melvin returned to New York where he married Leila Eisenstadt in 1947, graduated NY University in 1948, and joined the family business. Through the early 1950s, Schott became successful selling Irving's Perfecto Motorcycle jackets through Harley Davidson dealerships and listing the jackets in auto parts catalogs.

Things Ramp Up

The big jump to the company’s success came as a result of the 1953 movie The Wild One starring Marlon Brando.

Brando appeared in the movie wearing the Perfecto jacket (named for Irving's favorite cigar) and catapulted it into worldwide fame. During the 1960s, Melvin seized the opportunity to grow the company even more by creating the first catalog featuring the brand's signature jacket.
Melvin even connected with distributors in Japan and Europe to move sales onto the world stage. Melvin’s best contribution to the Scott apparel company was his refusal to outsource the manufacture of the company’s garments overseas. Melvin served as company President from 1986 to 1994, his late son Michael took the reigns 1995-1997, and daughter Roslyn has been running the show since 1997.

The End Is Near

The Schott Perfecto and all garments manufactured by the company are enduring icons on the motorcycle scene, thanks to Melvin and his innovative leadership.

He will be missed.

Exotic, Inexpensive Motorcycles, How to Get One for Yourself?

Gray - Market?

Ever wonder where your friends got their exotic motorcycles that weren't made to be sold in the USA? Did they ever explain the process they went through to get that motorcycle imported from another country to them?
The import of motorcycles manufactured not to be sold in the US is referred to as the Gray-Market. There are two methods you can employ to import a foreign-made motorcycle into the US.

This May or May Not Suck

First, you contact a dealer in a foreign country and ask them to find the motorcycle you want to import. Next, pray that the language barrier does not hinder your requested specs and hope you get the motorcycle you want. (Sucks)

What doesn’t suck is how you look while wearing your 4 Season Motorcycle Jacket.
This following method works best and is less of a headache for you. Find a motorcycle importer who specializes in importing the make and model you want to buy. (May not suck)
This eliminates the headache involved in this process of importation. The US government requires your import to meet specific standards to be allowed into the US. These standards come from the EPA, DOT, FMVSS, and finally, your local DMV. There is why you find an importer to locate and import the motorcycle you want, they do all the work, you pay the bill.

25 Years or Older Rule

Importing vehicles 25 years or older have a benefit, there are no Customs clearance restrictions. You are not free and clear yet, your state of residence may require safety modifications before a license is issued. California mandates vehicles manufactured after 1975 meet their emissions standards.
Knowing the year, make, and model of the motorcycle you want to import is not good enough for the feds.

  • You need proof of the date the bike was actually manufactured.
  • A label with the date of manufacture on the vehicle from the original manufacturer.
  • The first sales invoice.
  • A 25 year or older vehicle registration.
  • The age of the motorcycle verified by a recognized vehicle historical society in writing.

21 Years Versus 25 years

Bikes being 21 and 25 years of age or older does have some benefits. The EPA has no requirements for import inspection on 21-year-old motorcycles or vehicles. The DOT and FMVSS allow 25-year-old motorcycles or vehicles to enter the U. S. without complying with their standards.

Why Import?

Riders who want to import exotic motorcycles are looking for one with a two-stroke engine. As the US government imposed stricter emissions standards, the two-stroke engine went the way of the Do-Do bird, extinct.

The US motorcycle industry chooses to go with the easier to maintain a four-stroke engine. A two-stroke engine fires on each revolution of the crankshaft making for a lighter engine. The drawback, oil and fuel must be mixed during combustion, causing more pollution. Because they are lighter, the two-stroke motorcycle has a higher power-to-weight ratio.
Meaning, a 125cc two-stroke engine is equivalent to a 250cc four-stroke engine. You get one of these two-stroke import motorcycles, and you can show it off while wearing Leather Motorcycle Vest.

Where to Look

One such custom importer is Moto 2 Imports located in Washington DC specializing in importing Japanese two-stroke motorcycles. They can get you just about any motorcycle you want as long as it is older than 25 years, 1994 model year.
The owner, Tim Hope, puts it this way about getting good quality motorcycles for his clients. “It makes more sense financially to pay a premium when I am looking for the bike rather than trying to restore something farther gone," "Rebuilding these bikes is financially futile. You're usually better off spending more money upfront for a nicer specimen.”

Finally

A quick look at how to get an import motorcycle with as little hassle as possible, let the importer do the work. When you look for an importer, do your research and locate one close to where you live.
