Autumn: The Best Road Trips Ever

Anyone who believes that summer is best for vacation road trips, they are sadly mistaken.
What is the best time for road trips?  Autumn!

This ride is 469 miles of some of America’s most beautiful scenery anywhere. What is really great about this ride, you start at Shenandoah National Park, and 500 miles later, you end at Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

There is so much to take in along this route, hiking trails, campsites, and the excellent autumn scenery of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains. If you can only take one great ride in your lifetime, this is the one to choose.

If you recall, we posted the best US travel article on June 20, 2019, where we mention The Blue Ridge Parkway. In Autumn, this is such a spectacular ride we had to mention it again. Don’t forget to bring along 4 Season Motorcycle Jacket as the weather in fall can change at any time.

Are you a history buff, do you want to see the path taken by Lewis & Clark, in their historic journey west? Then U. S. Highway 12 through Montana, Idaho, and Washington is the ride for you. Your journey starts in the town of Lolo, Montana, traveling west into Idaho for 202 miles ending in Lewiston, Idaho.

The road is narrow, loaded with curves, mostly downhill, and packed with the colors of Autumn, a breathtaking ride. Riding west, you will follow the crystal clear Selway River. The Selway runs into the Clearwater River and from Orofino, ID.

The Clearwater will take to Lewiston, ID, where it joins the Snake River. Do not miss this ride in mid-Autumn if you can help it. This time of year in the Pacific Northwest rain is not a stranger to the weather pattern Men's Motorcycle Rain Gear is suggested.

If you want to stay on the east side of America, ride the Green Mountains of Vermont. There are more maple trees in this region than anywhere else in the US, it is hard to beat the color of maples in fall. The best view of the Green Mountains is the 11-mile scenic byway between Stowe and Waterbury in Northern Vermont.

The view is just as spectacular in southeastern Vermont along the Shires of Vermont Byway. The colors of fall are at their best from late-September to mid-October; enjoy the ride. In Autumn, New England can be damp, to say the least, bring your Waterproof Motorcycle Pants For Men to keep your legs dry from road spray.

There is a saying, "Texas is a nation within itself and a state of mind," how true that is.You want to take a fall ride in the Lone Star State, the Twisted Sisters in the Texas Hill Country comes to mind. This ride is around 100 miles long, and it is a favorite ride for motorcycle tours.

The ride starts at Medina, where you take Texas Ranch Road 337 (RR) along the first leg to the town of Leakey. That puts you not far from Garner State Park, Texas’ most popular, where the Frio River flows. Not far from Leakey on FM187 is the town of Vanderpool, the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum, and Lost Maples State Park. Texans say that the maples changing color in fall are a beautiful sight to behold Lost Maples State Park is where it happens.

Do I Really Need A Motorcycle Vest? Yes, because the climate in Texas during the fall can be a little warmer than you might think, did you bring your Leather Motorcycle Vest? Do not forget to check how.

Final Thought

Autumn is a season of change when the leaves of trees change colors to beautiful shades of orange, crimson, and yellow. The colors of Autumn may be great where you live, but in other parts of this great country, the colors of fall can be spectacular.

Rider Training – Do You Still Comply?

Have You Digressed?

You have your motorcycle license, been riding for a couple of years; do you still adhere to your safety training? Did you know that many motorcycle accidents involve riders without training?  Ninety-two percent of riders involved in accidents were self-taught or learned from friends or family. Rider inattention is a common factor in many motorcycle accidents.

Experience on the bike involved in an accident was less than 5 months, but the rider had about 3 years riding experience. Reaction time for a rider to avoid an accident is less than 2 seconds, remembering you accident avoidance techniques is crucial. In our article, Five Things You Might Want To Know Before You Begin Riding A Motorcycle we talked about five things you needed to know before beginning to ride. Number 4 was the importance of rider safety training.

Advanced Rider Training At Its Best

Do riders who have gone through rider safety training courses forget what they were taught after riding for a year or two? The sad part here is motorcycle accident deaths are at 14% of all accident fatalities in 2017, which is 5,286 dead bikers. Are these stats a result of riders who went through safety training only to ignore what they learned? It looks as though that might be the case. Speaking of looks, wearing Men Textile Motorcycle Pants will make you stand out in a crowd, looking good.

A Study of Rider Training

Do stats tell the truth about rider training & accidents?

A study in 1989 concluded that riders with safety training had fewer accidents, and the accidents were less severe. In 2007 another study found that riders who completed rider safety training courses were 44% more likely to get into an accident. The study went on to say riders who completed a second course were 180% more likely to have an accident. The two studies contradict each other, which is right?

The study did reveal that safety trained riders are more apt to wear Men Leather Motorcycle Pants with the armor inserts in place. The NHTSA in 2010 held a panel discussion assessing the effectiveness of entry-level motorcycle training. Here is the kicker, there is not enough data to support whether or not basic MC training is practical or not. The NHTSA cites the lack of stats on the relationships between impaired driving on trained and untrained riders. The NHTSA recommends further studies be conducted on the relationships between a person’s car and truck driving records and their motorcycle driving records.

What’s The Answer?

Right now, there isn't one at least not officially. Experience has taught you that rider safety training makes you a safer rider than you would be without it. Experience also dictates that you wear 4 Season Motorcycle Jacket for protection and that great look. So, do we need government research to tell us that rider safety training helps riders avoid and even prevent accidents?
No, we do not.

A Refreshing Thought

The thought here is, do you need to take an advanced training course every couple of years or so? Yes, you should take a refresher or even an advanced rider course as we tend to forget what we learned.

By taking a refresher course, you might learn a new accident avoidance technique that you were not taught the first time through. We all get rusty by refreshing your skills you will perform like a well-oiled machine. You will need all the safety tricks available when dealing with drivers who instinctively fail to notice the motorcycle on the road with them.

The Group Ride – How to Behave

You and your friends have decided to take a group Motorcycle ride. There is nothing more satisfying than a motorcycle ride with friends, keeping the ride safe adds to the enjoyment. There are some things to work out before the ride begins.

Pre-Ride Meeting

Gather together all those who are going on the ride. Decide on the route the ride will take, make sure that all the riders are familiar with the course. If you are planning to make a trip to Cross Country, please make sure you know how to prepare for a Cross Country Motorcycle Trip?
Know where the rest stops are, it is essential to rest every so often to avoid road fatigue. Make sure that everyone on the ride knows where the fuel stops are.
Each rider should know the fuel consumption rate for his/her bike. This way, each rider can let the leader know where they will need to get fuel.

The group should decide on at least one stop along the route where everyone is to stop to count heads.

Big Rule: Make it clear that anyone who wants to join the ride must wear a DOT certified helmet.
It is also a good idea to wear your Men Textile Motorcycle Pants with hip and knee armor in place.

Choose Your Pecking Order

Choose who is riding lead, should be one of the most experienced riders in the group.
The lead is responsible for making sure the road ahead of the group is safe, roadblocks, accidents, seeing whether or not the passing lanes are clear.
Who is going to bring up the rear (tail), this rider too should have a lot of experience.
The tail rider watches the group ahead of him/her looking for riders dropping out, helping bikers with mechanical trouble, etc.

Riders who do not have a lot of experience should be right behind the leader. Let your experience lead the way by wearing your Textile Men Motorcycle Jacket

Before Ride To-Do List

Perform a motorcycle safety check of your bike, make sure there is not going to be any surprises during the ride. Fill your bike with fuel, running out of fuel can put a damper on everything.
Bring snacks, bottled water, a first aid kit, your motorcycle tool kit, throw in your 4 Season Motorcycle Jacket, just in case.

Make the Ride Safe

Know the hand signals as the noise of motorcycles drown out verbal instructions. The leader will use hand signals to warn, instruct, and otherwise tell the group what is happening.
Do not drink alcohol before or during the ride, riding buzzed or intoxicated is illegal and very dangerous. Anyone consuming alcohol before or during the ride should be barred immediately as everyone else on the trip is in danger.

Do not ride recklessly by doing wheelies or other dangerous stunts. Make yourself visible by wearing a highway safety vest over your Motorcycle Leather Armor Jackets.

Ride In Staggered Formation

The leader in the left third of the traffic lane, next rider in the right third of the lane, continue this stagger formation for the remaining riders. There should be at least 2-4 seconds between each rider for avoiding hazards and for safe movement within the formation.
If the ride were broken down into new groups, each group would follow the formation as described above. Depending on who many riders are joining the ride, keep the numbers manageable.
Five to seven riders are a good number for the formation. If more than seven are riding, break the ride into two or more formations, each with a lead and a tail.

Ride’s End

You follow the above suggestions for group rides and all will have a good time. The memories of group rides can last a long time.
